The Delaware Foundation for Visual Arts (DFVA) is a non-profit, membership organization dedicated to the
preservation of the arts. Our mission is to develop a wide ranging network of support and encouragement for the aspiring visual artist and to foster
understanding and appreciation of art and its importance in our society.
This is accomplished by:
- Annually awarding scholarships to high school seniors pursuing a career in the visual arts.
- Providing workshops and seminars for the continued growth of the serious student as well as the advanced artist.
- Scheduling thought provoking exhibits and educational programs to inspire the public, promote the arts and fund raise for our scholarship program.
The Delaware Foundation for the Visual Arts was formed out of a desire to provide opportunities that would benefit artists, both aspiring and seasoned, in numerous ways.
In 1990 a small group of local artists joined together and the DFVA was established. Through their talents and efforts they sought to provide encouragement for aspiring young artists in the form of scholarships for graduating Delaware high school students going on to art colleges. In addition they designed programs dedicated to the traditional time honored teachings that have produced the artwork so revered today.
As the DFVA has grown so have our programs; both for the Delaware High School students as well as for the adult artist population. Today we have 150 members comprised of artists, patrons and educators and we are now actively working to acquire a home of our own to better serve the community.
